July 26, 2017
One of the myriad reasons the elite CORE Institute in Arizona sought him out and wanted Dr. Mark Dekutoski to join their team is because of his love of teaching and his willingness to move the field of orthopedics into the future. Of course, in order to have a love of teaching, one should also have a love of learning and Dr. Dekutoski seems to have a lifelong desire to do that.

As one could possibly guess, Dr. Mark Dekutoski’s education is actually quite impressive, starting with the B.A. he earned from Albion University in 1982. Of course, he followed that up when he earned a medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and he became Dr. Mark Dekutoski, MD in 1986. He went on to finish an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery between 1987 and 1991, also under the auspices of Wayne State Medical School. He also was a John H. Moe Clinical Spine Fellow at the Twin Cities Scoliosis Spine Center at the University of Minnesota in 1993.

There is no doubt the CORE Institute was also impressed with Dr. Mark Dekutoski’s long and detailed experience and skill in medical research and writing, especially in the area of spinal disorders. Dr. Dekutoski, has also been a reviewer and collaborator for quite a few medical journals and an editor for numerous other publications. For example, he edited a supplement for Spine, which is recognized as one of the most prestigious orthopedic journals in the world. In addition, Dr. Mark Dekutoski served on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Current Surgery for some time and was an Associate Editor for the Journal of Spine Disorders for a time.
Mark Dekutoski has already served as Chairman of the Mayo Clinic Medical School Orthopedic curriculum and Chair of the Scoliosis Research Society and AOSpine North America Educational committees. These positions allowed him to help with decision making processes in his desired field and by lending his time to these causes he is able to help shape his field.
